Ch'i Bocól Community Hostel

eco-living. community. relaxation.

our mission

eco-living & community building

At Ch'i Bocól, we believe in building a sustainable future, and we are taking the appropriate steps to do so. We have an 1800w solar panel array which supplies us with all the power we need while eliminating our reliance on fossil fuels. Our 2 natural gas powered refrigerators keep your food and drinks cold while you are away. The river is our water resource, our waste water gets filtered and goes clean back in the ground. Our garden provides us with much of the food that we prepare on a daily basis, such as an variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs. We are currently working on our eco-toilets, so that we can reuse our excrements as compost and water for the plants in our garden. In the future, we want to build a compost digester, which will provide us with gas for cooking. While our long term goal is 100% self sustainability, we are not quite there yet, but we are off to a good start, and with every guest that comes to stay with us, we can get a little bit closer to complete independence from the outside world. Support those who support the planet. Come be a part of our eco friendly community.

As a community hostel, we are inviting volunteers, guests and our workers to be part of our community. We like to sit together in the community space, relax and have a talk. Since Ch’i Bocól provides a stable home to our manager Anna and her lovely little daughter Malika, you are also more than welcome to stay long-term.

Reconnect with nature. Relax. Come together in community.

Mike
(owner)

In January of 2014 I "quit my normal life" in the United states to pursue my lifelong dream of extended world travel. I spent the 1st year traveling to every country in Central America and I completely fell in love with this part of Guatemala. I returned soon after and spent several months in the Lanquin / Semuc Champey area. During this time, I had heard stories about a beautiful and secluded waterfall which no tourists or gringos ever visited. It sounded like paradise. When I arrived here I felt a peacefulness and tranquility that I had not experienced in any of my travels. When I found out that a piece of land was for sale adjacent to this spot, I felt that it was my purpose to share this beautiful place with the rest of the world, and the rest is history. We welcome you to come be a part of our little community, and look forward to sharing this wonderful place with you.

Anna
(Manager)

The first time I visited Ch’i Bocól was in 2018 during my travels in Central America and worked here as a volunteer. When I got pregnant and was looking for a calm place to settle down with my daughter Malika, I found myself back at Ch’i Bocol. I especially like the tranquility of the nature around here and that there is no disturbance of cars, trains etc.

At Ch’i Bocol I want to create a place for people who want to (re)connect with themselves and nature. A place of tranquility, recovery and community.

Panda
(Co-Manager)

I am a person who loves the adventure, challenges and travel. Through this path I have fallen in love with nature and the expression of art, especially in Mexico and Central America. More than anything the area around Semuc Champey and the peaceful, humble and happy people, made me stay at Ch’i Bocól.

What I like most about Ch’i Bocól is how easy it is to connect with nature. It was the birth place of my interest in permaculture, recycling and self-sustainability. I am happy that I’ve found this place and I enjoy it a lot!
